Explore Ecuador's Alpaca Textiles

Brittany's first trip to Ecuador was in 2005 when she went for 2 weeks to do volunteer work in the capital city of Quito.  Not only was she enamored with the people and the culture, but after shopping the local markets she fell in love with the vibrant alpaca textiles!

Alpaca fiber is a traditional material that the Ecuadorians have been using for centuries. It is soft and lightweight, yet extremely warm. It also contains no lanolin, which makes it hypoallergenic (unlike sheep’s wool).
It is pretty much the best material for blankets and scarves, which is why we love it so much!

The weavers we work with create our products in a small village in the Andes Mountains.  Each design is prepared by hand by winding the alpaca wool onto large spinning setters. The design is then transferred to a traditional

loom where is it woven into blankets and scarves.
